Speaking of Markets

Two markets in Bellingham that are definitely assets are The Public Market and the Bellingham Farmers Market.  Here's the scoop:

The Public Market is open all year, great hours, offers organic produce, eating, herbs, coffee, 1530 Cornwall at the corner of Cornwall and York.

Bellingham Farmers Market has a Saturday downtown market (Depot Market Square, Railroad at Chestnut) from April to late December, 10am - 3pm, and a  Fairhaven Wednesday afternoon market (on the Village Green behind Village Books), 12pm - 5pm, June through September.

By the way of other fresh produce, I like Youngstock's Country Farms Nursery and Produce, 2237 James St. in the Sunnyland district. Yum and prices.  'Nuff said.

Is There An Economy in Sight?

While 2010 had fewer business closures(57) compared to 2009(89) or 2008(83), it's still hard to tell that the local economy is turning around.  Everyone who knows me understands that I favored a jobs program as a part of the big plan. We can't cut our way out of this "recession" and higher than ever corporate profits hasn't "trickled down"...didn't work when Reagan tried that either. Nimbus closing for minimum 2 months or, as likely, forever....not a good sign.

But a little blue lining, the Cost Cutter that closed at Lakeway Center is being replaced by The Market at Lakeway, part of the larger facelift to the whole strip mall (which is looking good, by the way). I will like having an even more convenient Market than the one at Fairhaven. By Atlanta measures, the both of them still would be considered a stone's throw from each other, being only two exits from each other on I-5. But I will appreciate having it on my regular commute route, just as Fred Meyers is.

I visited Super Mario's this week and am glad to have a convenient taco truck that I favor as much as the one east on Meridien, Tacos Tecalitlan, near Glynn's Irish Pub.  Much easier to get to at 1422 N. Forest.
